Our History
In March 2005 the first Women of Resource Communities Conference was held in Parksville on Vancouver Island and brought together over 85 women who were involved in BC’s resource sector and/or lived in a BC resource community.
This conference was an opportunity for women who worked in agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries, forestry, mining, oil and gas, and other related sectors, and women from all levels of government to discuss common issues, learn more about their particular challenges, and to hear about of the many successes in this diverse sector.
The conference was initiated and organized in collaboration with First Dollar Alliance – a grassroots organization that promotes the positive contribution that the resource communities make to British Columbia, Positive Aquaculture Awareness - a non-profit society involved with public education about the BC aquaculture industry and CeaCom Consulting.
